Poll Analysis
Small
business
owners,
entrepreneurs
and
job
creators
have
been
bemoaning
the
hurdles
to
hiring
and
growth
that
federal
rules
and
regulations
represent
for
some
time
now,
and
a
new
national
poll
shows
broad
support
and
sympathy
for
their
positions
among
Americans.
Nearly
60%
of
adults
nationwide
have
a
great
deal
of
sympathy
for
individual
small
business
owners
who
name
high
taxes
as
a
problem
when
it
comes
to
hiring
new
workers
or
increasing
wages
of
current
workers.
Likewise
for
the
issues
of
confusing
tax
rules,
rising
health
care
costs
and
political
gridlock,
more
than
half
of
Americans
have
a
great
deal
of
sympathy.
Interestingly,
when
asked
if
they
would
support
certain
policy
reforms
on
behalf
of
employers
if
it
would
help
to
create
jobs
or
raise
wages,
there
was
broad
support
for
giving
tax
breaks
to
small
business
owners
(68%);
reforming
the
tax
code
to
make
it
less
complex
and
costly
to
comply
with
(68%);
reducing
Federal
spending
to
reassure
the
private
sector
that
taxes
wouldnt
be
raised
in
the
future
(53%)
and
reducing
the
number
of
additional
regulations
that
small
businesses
face
as
they
grow
(51%).
Further,
when
asked
if
they
believed
that
if
the
policy
changes
they
support
were
made,
employers
in
their
communities
would
hire
more
workers
or
pay
higher
wages,
90%
said
that
was
at
least
somewhat
likely.
Nearly
60%
of
all
adults
and
67%
of
political
Independents,
said
that
the
best
approach
to
getting
the
economy
back
on
track
and
creating
jobs
would
be
to
limit
the
size
of
government,
keep
taxes
low
and
reduce
regulatory
burden.
The poll of a representative sample of 2,023 adults was conducted for the Job Creators Alliance by YouGov with a margin of error of +/- 2.2% on February 24-28, 2012.
