Join us on September 3, 2011: Global Demonstrations in Defense of People in Iraqi Kurdistan and against the Atrocities of the Islamic

Republic of Iran & the Turkish Government!

What is happening? For the past several weeks, people in Iraqi Kurdistan have been the targets of military operations by both the Islamic Republic of Iran and by the Turkish military. The Turkish government and the Islamic Republic claim that the reason they are launching air and ground assaults in this region is to defend against attacks by armed militants. But in fact, these governments are attacking villages, farms, livestock, and civilian vehicles. They are targeting the people in Iraqi Kurdistan, and using the armed militants as an excuse to justify their atrocities. Where is it happening? The assaults are happening primarily in the Kandil Mountains, an area that borders Turkey, Iran, and Syria. Kurdish areas in northern Syria bordering Turkey are already burning in revolution. Why is this happening? Like elsewhere in the region, people in Iran, Iraq, and Turkey are also tired of living under dictatorship. They want to live in freedom, and have been struggling for freedom for years. The revolutionary mood in the region has reached these countries too. The suppressive regimes are afraid, and will do anything to prevent people from overthrowing these dictatorial regimes. Therefore, the objectives of these atrocities are: - to create an atmosphere of fear - to provide justification for militarization in the area, which will suppress the local population - to crush peoples' defiance and protest What are people doing about it? Protests have already started in a number of cities in Iraqi Kurdistan. In support of these protests to - condemn the Islamic Republic and the government of Turkey, - demand an immediate halt to these atrocities, and - bring an end to the militaristic atmosphere We are organizing a demonstration on 3 September, in coordination with cities around the world. We invite you to join us and all freedom-loving people in Europe, North America, Turkey, Iraq and Iran to demonstrate on September 3, 2011 in support of people in Iraqi Kurdistan. LETTER-WRITING ACTION: Write to the European Parliament in Support of the People in Iraqi Kurdistan
Please send an email based on this letter to the European Union to help stop the attacks on the people in Iraqi Kurdistan. PLEASE SEND TO: jerzy.buzek@europarl.europa.eu & maja.kocijancic@ec.europa.eu To the European Parliament: I am writing to express my deep concern about the attacks by the Turkish government and the Islamic Republic of Iran against people in Iraqi Kurdistan, against their villages, homes, and livelihoods. I want the European Union to pressure the government of Turkey and the Islamic Republic of Iran to stop their attacks immediately, and to compensate the people in Iraqi Kurdistan for the losses of lives, homes, livelihoods, and infrastructure, all of which have been destroyed in these illegal attacks. I also want the European Union to condemn the media blackout on Iraqi Kurdistan that has been imposed by the Iraqi government. The EU should demand that the Iraqi government immediately lift all restrictions on the access of international media to the area. Sincerely, [Your name]

The Mothers of Peace: This is a group of Kurdish mothers from Turkey who have gone out and used their bodies as human shields to block the roads so that the Turkish military cannot pass. Peace Mother Hava Kran made a brief announcement saying, "We are blocking traffic so soldiers do not die. This action is a natural right of mothers. We closed this road so no more mothers are hurt."
