Q. What was your primary motivation for writing Love, Song & Dance?
A. Love, Song & Dance started as a challenge from a friend who dared me to
write an online sex chronicle and post it on various blogs to see what type of re-
action I would get. What came from roughly four paragraphs were the emotions,
sentiments of individuals and events that happened around me that grazed my heart,
mind and spirit, allowing me to free myself and spew what had been in me for so
long but never would come out right verbally.
A. Ja’Quan was the combination of six individuals that are distinctly different, yet
all shared three common issues: each has an inner sexual struggle, each are born
and bred church boys trying to walk by faith, and each want a shot at love.

reading Love, Song & Dance.
A. Love, Song & Dance is the story of the current generation of young men—and
not just black men on the rise trying to find their identities in religion, society, love
and themselves. Love, Song & Dance is not the typical he said-she-said who fucked
who first another brother on the down-low drama gimmick found on the book-
shelves. Love, Song & Dance is truth regardless of how you see it.
Q. What makes Ja’Quan so guarded about allowing people into his world?
A. Ja’Quan has been hurt time after time by lies, deceit, fair-weather friends and
straight-up enemies who either used him for what they wanted, but then put him on
the shelf like an obsolete toy or doll when of no use. Constantly treated like ciga-
rette ashes on the floor, trust broken, and eyes opened, Ja’Quan sees things for what
